I have a custom built machine. My motherboard is an ASUS P5GD2 with American Megatrends Bios dated 2004. Recently my harddrive died, but I had WinXP Home Premium backed up on a smaller drive. I purchased a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA drive and migrated XP onto it using an Acronis Utility. After updating XP to SP2 I installed Vista Home Premium. I then proceeded to update it to SP2 and then attempted to install Windows 7 Upgrade and that's where the problems began. Windows 7 tells me to update ITE IT8212 ATA Raid Controller, but Vista says it's the latest. The driver is 1.7.2.7 dated 11/05. In CMOS the SATA drive is configured as an IDE, the only way it will work. I read all the info in this forum I could find, deleted a virtual drive that seemed to plague others, but to no avail. I've seen this problem all over the internet and even found a guy who solved it, but he had a different bios and I have been unable to get my hands on the seemingly mythical 1.7.2.9 { http://www.windowsdailynews.com/2010/01/25/successfully-upgrading-your-raid-drivers-in-windows-7/} is the link to this enterprising person's tale of terror, and frankly I'm not sure I could pull it off.
Rocket RAID 622 SATA Controller. → Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. This is will she installed driver software compatible with the. I've seen similar stability problems with a Sans Digital TowerRAID TR8M-BP and a Highpoint RocketRAID 622. After a few days of testing I found the problem to be the RocketRAID drivers, specifically the x64 drivers. On all x86 systems (even the same hardware), the systems were stable, but under a 64 bit system the TowerRAID was useless. If you want to buy your own get it here! Is there something about a SATA drive causing this?
Is my bios outdated?
Is my controller card outdated?
I had Windows 7 on the recently deceased drive, but it was PATA.
Hmmm. Anyhow, I will check for an answer next week when I return. Thanks in advance for any help.
